Bennett Thrasher, one of the largest full-service public accounting and consulting firms in the country, announces the addition of Stephen Klein as managing director of the firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring practice.
Klein brings over 45 years of experience serving clients with complex challenges across industries. In his new role at Bennett Thrasher, he will assist clients with debt restructuring, crisis management, commercial contracts, public company SEC compliance and other business consulting needs.
“Stephen is an outstanding addition to our robust team of consultants, and we’re pleased to continue to grow our bankruptcy and restructuring practice under his leadership,” said Jeff Eischeid, managing partner at Bennett Thrasher. “With decades of experience in financial consulting and first-hand knowledge of what it takes to grow and restructure a company, Stephen understands the multifaceted challenges facing businesses today. With his depth of expertise, our team will continue providing the top-quality service we’re known for, supporting clients through this difficult and demanding time.”
Early in his career, Klein concentrated on real estate development and accumulated more than one million square feet in commercial real estate assets. In the early 1970s, he joined a regional financial consulting and insurance firm as an account executive; rising to CFO, president, then chairman of the board. As head of the firm’s restructuring division, Klein led several restructurings, including being named the Chief Restructuring Officer of a quarter-billion-dollar enterprise with more than 1,200 employees.
In 1982, along with a board of eight others, Klein helped form Republic Bank. Republic grew to over $6 billion in assets and was successfully sold in a billion-dollar transaction. In the early 1990s, Klein founded Omni Financial Services, Inc., an Atlanta-based, hard-money lender, and grew that firm to over $1 billion in assets, leading a successful NASDAQ IPO.
“Bennett Thrasher has a well-known reputation for serving its clients with integrity and excellence, and I’m proud to join in its mission to provide clients with superior services throughout this challenging time,” said Klein. “There is an unprecedented need for bankruptcy and restructuring specialists, and I’m committed to providing thoughtful, informed and customized solutions for each of our clients.”
Klein earned his LL.M. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, summa cum laude and earned his Juris Doctor degree from John Marshall Law School, magna cum laude. His doctoral dissertation “The Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 – 25 years later: A Closer Look” was published and has been used as reference material.
