Tempe - Nearly 30 Henry+Horne employees teamed up with family and friends to make what’s known as “chemo covers” for children undergoing chemotherapy.
The effort is part of the many ways Valley nonprofit Amanda Hope Rainbow Angel’s supports families and kids impacted by childhood cancer. The group tapped into their creative side, using felt, stickers, googly eyes, paint and more to create 40 chemo covers.
These covers are used to reduce children’s anxiety by covering the toxic warning labels on the chemo bag. Children enjoy naming their covers and will often refer to them when discussing their own pain. This helps medical professionals to more successfully monitor and manage a child’s pain.
Amanda Hope Rainbow Angel’s mission includes outfitting children going through chemotherapy with specially designed shirts that keep their bodies covered while also allowing medical professionals to do necessary exams, supporting health care professionals in providing person-centered care to children and their families, and helping families have a voice and a choice when it comes to health care system protocols.
