AKRON, Ohio - SS&G is proud to announce the promotion of three of its professional staff members to director in its Akron office.

Marie Brilmyer, CPA, M. Acc. was promoted to director of assurance services. With over 13 years of experience in public accounting and industry, Marie oversees teams in performing audits, reviews, compilations, and other special projects for a variety of businesses. She is experienced with organizations of varying size, corporate structure, and industries, including manufacturing, distribution, service organizations, temporary staffing agencies, health care entities, nonprofit organizations, employee benefit plans, schools, and religious institutions. In addition, Marie is skilled in working with venture capital-funded entities. She focuses her time in working with nonprofit organizations, particularly providing assurance and consulting services. Marie earned her Masters of Accounting from The Ohio State University and her bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA). In 2011, Marie successfully completed the AICPA's Leadership Academy and serves on the AICPA's Women's Initiatives Executive Committee's Champions Task Force. In addition, Marie has served on a number of OSCPA committees and task forces and is currently Chair of the CPA Voice Editorial Advisory Committee and the Women's Initiatives Committee, as well as a member of the OSCPA's Executive Board. Marie volunteers her time to many Akron-area community organizations and is currently treasurer of GASP, a local nonprofit, an appointed member of the Summit County Consumer Affairs Advisory Board, and a proud graduate of Leadership Akron Class XXIX. In 2013, she was a recipient of the Greater Akron Chamber's 30 for the Future award.

Leif Erickson, CPA, MT, was promoted to director of tax services. Leif is a director in the tax department at SS&G and a trusted business adviser with 13 years of public accounting experience. He specializes in the area of taxation, including corporate and individual tax planning, ASC 740 tax provisions, analyses for uncertain tax position disclosures, research and experimental tax credits, last-in/first-out inventory, gross domestic product deduction analysis, cost segregation studies, and IRS defense representation. Leif graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and business administration from Malone University, where he was an academic All-American and team captain. He earned his Master of Taxation from The University of Akron, where he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. Leif is a regular public speaker for a number of professional organizations and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, and the Ohio Society of CPAs. He is also a member of the board membership to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees Dinner Committee and a Lake YMCA youth coach.

Thomas Kotick, CPA, CFP®, was promoted to director of tax services. He has vast experience in public accounting and taxation for individuals, businesses, trusts, estates, and nonprofit organizations. Tom specializes in estate, gift, and fiduciary taxation compliance and consulting. He advises clients on tax planning ideas that are focused on their goals and objectives. The financial results are important but should not be a client's only driving force. Tom has also been utilized as an expert resource on trusts and was quoted in "Your Wills, Trusts, & Estates Explained Simply" by Margo Pierce. Tom earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Ohio University. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, The Ohio Society of CPAs, and the Akron Estate Planning Council. Tom also serves on the advisory board of the Salvation Army of Medina as treasurer and chair of the finance and development committee. For several years, he's been a member of the finance team at his church and enjoys coaching his children's soccer teams. He recently was accepted in the Leadership Medina County program class of 2013.
